SVPAL - Email Client Setup

This document provides general instructions for setting up email clients for accessing SVPAL email. SVPAL has enabled automatic configuration via autoconfig v1.1 and autodiscover. The former works for Thunderbird email and a number of other email client, while the latter works for Outlook and other email clients. We generally recommend you try using automatic configuration, then use the following information if automatic configuration does not succeed.

You may use the following links to view more specific configuration for some popular email clients.

Many email apps now support automatic configuration. For these apps, you need to only provide your name, email address, and your password to configure the app. However, some require you to manually configure all the settings.

If you need to manually configure your email settings, use the following for incoming email. The IMAP settings are preferred if you use more than one device for accessing your email. You can maintain email folders on the server and share them across devices.

Label Setting
Incoming/Type IMAP
Server hostname imap.svpal.org
Port 143
SSL/Secure STARTTLS/TLS/Checked
Authentication Normal/Plain/Cleartext password

Alternative settings for IMAP email access may be used if the above settings don't work:

Label Setting
Incoming/Type IMAP
Server hostname imap.svpal.org
Port 993
SSL/Secure SSL/TLS
Authentication Normal/Plain/Cleartext password

Use these settings if IMAP does not work for your email app. Also POP is a better choice if you prefer to download your email to your device and remove it from the server. POP does not support server folders.

Label Setting
Incoming/Type POP/POP3
Server hostname pop.svpal.org
Port 110
SSL/Secure STARTTLS/TLS/Checked
Authentication Normal/Plain/Cleartext password

Alternative settings for POP email access to try if the above POP settings don't work.

Label Setting
Incoming/Type POP/POP3
Server hostname pop.svpal.org
Port 995
SSL/Secure SSL/TLS
Authentication Normal/Plain/Cleartext password

SMTP Settings

Use these settings for Outgoing/SMTP.

Label Setting
Outging/SMTP SMTP
Server hostname smtp.svpal.org
Port 587

Authentication Normal/Plain/Cleartext password

Alternative Outgoing/SMTP settings, if the above settings don't work.

Server hostname smtp.svpal.org
Port 465
SSL/Secure SSL/TLS
Authentication Normal/Plain/Cleartext password
