The Operations Area is responsible for maintaining overall system
and service reliability and responsiveness
and for pursuing needed enhancements to service.
This area consists of the following groups:
Connectivity Operations

Responsible for ensuring daily reliability
and responsiveness of the SVPAL dial-in service,
including correct operation of modems, portmasters,
and host-based dial-in support (e. g. Radius).
- Attend to telnet access.

Monitor operations and resolve detected or reported
dial-in problems.
User Application Operations
-
Responsible for ensuring daily reliability
and responsiveness of SVPAL host-based applications,
including news, mail, ftp, web and IRC.

Monitor operations and resolve detected or reported problems
with these services.
Development
-
Responsible for planning and developing hardware
and software solutions to long-term system problems
and adding system enhancements.
- Perform (as needed) special projects.
- Attend to overall, long-term health of system software.

Install (as appropriate) new versions of system software,
while minimizing service disruptions.

Work with Connectivity Operations and User Application
Operations groups to assess problem and enhancement
requirements.
Customer Support

Responsible for daily operation of SVPAL customer query
and problem report service.

Resolve (as possible) end-user and SVPAL information
provider questions and problems; or forward (as needed)
them to Connectivity Operations, User Application Operations,
and/or Development groups and for pursuing their timely
resolution by these groups.
